DULWICH WOOD AVENUE BACK

Rounding the square

Dividing an expansive space to add intrigue

THE DESIGN

With such an expansive blank canvas, the challenge was to create interest in every corner. And the answer lay in circles.

My planetary-inspired design carved out spaces, multiple spaces, for different purposes, so my clients could appreciate the garden in all sorts of ways at all times of day.

From sun patios to firepits for summer nights, sleeper-seat resting spots, even low maintenance meadow lawns, every detail added was intended to make the garden easy to enjoy.

PLANTING

Long low-maintenance meadow lawns orbiting a central circular, more traditional mown lawn.

Soft screening planting to complement existing trees, including Magnolia Stellata, Japanese acers and oak.

Clever shade-loving planting to fill stepped retaining wall and smart additions to borders, padding them out, to ensure year-round privacy.

STRUCTURES

New steel-stepped garden entrance onto large circular patio.

Sun patio with rendered low wall around north side, edged with mosaic detail.

Existing path broken up with sections of sleepers and cobbles, plus an oak sleeper seat stepped into a low wall, adding a resting place.

Evening fire pit seating area with semi-circular seat in wood and benches opposite a stone patio with mosaic insert centrepiece.
